Beard Dandruff? Really?

Nirvana Natural Nettle & Jasmine Shampoo

Ok, let's talk beards. Some of our best friends have em and growing and maintaining the perfect beard is a bit of an art form. So you wouldn't want to spoil that magnificent creation by succumbing to what is a very common problem, beard dandruff. Who'd a thought it? But yes, beard dandruff is a very real condition.

Beard dandruff, also called seborrheic dermatitis or flaking skin, is a common inflammatory skin condition that is caused by one or a combination of factors such as dry skin, product irritation, an existing skin condition, diet, or a type of yeast called pityrosporum ovale that makes the skin red, cracked, and flaky. And because all skin is different, the treatments may vary as well.

The quickest way to solve the problem is to simply shave that beard right off, but who wants to do that when beards look so darn cool? Fear not, help is at hand and there are things that can be done to fix that flake.

- Gentle exfoliation and moisturising. Use a warm damp flannel and gently rub the skin, but take extra care to be gentle and you don't want to exacerbate the problem. Follow with a very gentle and hypo-allergenic moisturiser or beard oil.

- Combine neem oil and jojoba oil. This is a good treatment to use at night before going to bed when skins cells regenerate the most effectively. Combine three drops of neem oil with six drops of jojoba oil and masage into skin and beard and leave over night. not only will you be flake free, but your beard will look divine.
